Last Thursday
Well, we had a fun time last Thursday at the Rhythm Room opening for Perpetual Groove. Nice Thursday crowd. The P Groove guys for Georgia seemed affable fellows--I particularly enjoyed chatting with their keyboard player for a bit. They take the award away from Brothers Past as far as the band that has most equipment on the stage for a show. Damn. I enjoyed their Peter Gabrial cover for sure.
We debuted a new song on Thursday night. Which is kind of an old song. Weird. We have (had) a song that was a funky number called Harry Carry which we used to play with regularity. Then we got tired of it and stopped playing it. About 4 months ago, we decided to revitalize it. Al came up with two new parts (beginning and end) and we saved the middle part of the old version. We still called it Harry Carry. We played it a few times live--and got a nice response every time--and we even recorded it last December. But, over the holidays, we decided we didn't like the one hold over from the old Harry Carry. So, we came up with a new part. So its a whole new song. NOW, its called Sweet Air. It is still funky. We were a bit nervous, but we pulled it off last Thursday. We also definitely played the best version of another new song we have called "Ride this Hurricane" that we had ever played live before. Cool. Here is the setlist.
THU, FEB 17, Rhythm Room, Houston, Tx, (Opening for Perpetual Groove)
Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Turnaround, Sweet Air*, Sweet Leaf, Situation Room, Memphis Soul Stew, Everybody Wanna Get Rich (Right Away), Ride this Hurricane
Hey now, we are heading back to Louisiana this weekend. This will be our first time in Lafayette, LA, as we are playing at The Keg on Thursday, Feb 24. If you know anyone in Lafayette, please tell them to come check us out!!! We are also playing in Lake Charles at Breezy's opening up for our pals in Thinking Plyers. Show starts early--9 pm--so come check out PLUMP early.
Also, we have two shows in the Bryan/College Station area over March 3 and 4. We are playing the NORTHGATE FESTIVAL on THU MAR 3. We are at the Pavilion behind the Chicken. We start at 9 pm, and we play right after our pals in GNAPPY. Cool.
Then, on Fri Mar 4 we are at Revolution in Bryan, where we are gonna throw down some serious jams. Hey, if there is anyone in Bryan/College Station who would like to help us get the word out about the shows and pass out handbills, we will make it worth your while (wink wink). Please send me an email at dougpayne74@yahoo.com if interested in helping flyer for these shows. Excellent.
